Pastor Doug Nagel

Pastor Doug Nagel was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Mervin Paul and Shirley Jean (Hemphill) Nagel on February 26, 1954.  He has one brother, David. 

Pastor Doug is a graduate of Shenango High School, Lafayette College [A.B. Chemistry], Princeton Theological Seminary [Master of Divinity], and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary [Doctor of Ministry].

Doug has been married to LuAnn for 42 years. They have two adult children, Elizabeth and Andrew. Elizabeth is married to Derek Aldridge, and lives in Whitehouse, Ohio. They have twins, Ollie and Caylyn. Their son Andrew is married to Alyssa (McManaway) and lives in Virginia Beach.

Doug was ordained by the United Presbyterian Church (USA) on July 8, 1979 and called to serve as Assistant and then Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, Maryland. Four years later, he received a call to serve as Solo Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Herrin, Illinois, where he led the development of a community food and clothing pantry as well as the first rural homeless shelter in Illinois.

In 1988, Pastor Doug was called to serve First Presbyterian Church, Fremont, Ohio where he served for 15 years before becoming pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, Virginia (now Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church).

Pastor Doug enjoys preaching, leading worship, teaching the Bible, and being with people, helping them draw closer to God. 

Pastor Doug enjoys reading in a broad subject area, stamp collecting, playing competitive croquet, singing and making music on the piano, guitar and synthesizer.  He avidly follows Lafayette College football and basketball, roots for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He did this with his committee back in 2005; before our name change to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. This book has some interesting old history in it.
